Spent a large part of my youth growing up in Randfontein. I remember vividly playing soccer at the Homelake field after school . I played with Rodney Comer-Crook, Mel Treiwis, Colin Segal the Reece-Gibbs brothers and Arthur Coghlan ,just to name a few.I emigrated to Israel with my wife and 3 children in 1976.We live in Herzlia and now have 10 grandchildren. My brother,Ronnie and his wife ,Doreen still stay in Greenhills.

I spent about 12 years in Randfontein, and attended Randfontein HS. They were the greatest years!
We had great times riding our bikes to Robsinson Lake, swimming in the warm water of the lake, smelling peanut butter from the Black Cat Peanut factory to and from school, and going to the local bioscope on Saturday nights after out soccer match.
And of course, let's not forget Pappas' Cafe and the pinball machines!
What a great community it was....

My family moved from Johannesburg to Randfontein in 1948 – I was 6 years old at the time. I went to Randfontein Primary and then to Jan Viljoen T H S. My late father was a very popular teacher at Jan Viljoen for many years, and remained a resident until he and my mother passed away at the ripe age of 93 – (2004) first my mother, and then my father 15 days later. They were truly joined at the hip. I started working in Johannesburg in 1961 and then moved to Swaziland in 1963. Worked at the Swazi Spa and Casino from 1966 – 1976 and then moved to Cape Town. I have 3 children, 2 step children and 2 grand children. My wife Hillary and I live in Camps Bay and spend a lot of our time visiting our family in Portugal, America and England. Through this wonderful web site – I have managed to re-connect with several old soccer pals, and many others that bring back happy memories of my childhood.

What a great idea! I have read through all the guestbook entries and what a blast from the past! I was born in Randfontein in 1950 and lived there with my parents Cecil and Eve Blieden and my two brothers Max and Larry. We lived at 26 Benson Avenue (not 18 Tzemach - as we apparently bought the Bloomberg's house in West Porges) My dad was the GP there with Lou Nafte, Matin Lombard and ?Van Tonder.
I attended Randfontein Primary School and yes Colin Florence - I too was terrified of Mr Powell. I then went to Randfontein High school and left there is 1965 when we went to live in Johannesburg.
I now live in Melbourne with my husband Donald, my two children Greg(33) and Nikki(30) who is married to Josh and have given me a beautiful precious grandson Micah. She is due to have her next child in April - granny number 2. Yay!
My dad unfortunately has passed away but my Mum is alive and well and living in Melbourne where Max and his family live too. Larry lives in Johannesburg.

I was born in Randfontein in 1938. Went to Randfontein Primary School and then on to Krugersdorp High School. Worked in Tanganyika in the early '60's and spent 15 years in the gold mines in Carletonville. Came to Canada in 1977 and worked in Uranium and Tantalum mining until I retired in 2007. My wife's name is Margie - we were married in 1992 and now reside in Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba with our Golden Retriever, Kylie. I think that this website is a gem of an idea and hope that it goes from strength to strength. Looking forward to finding out about some of my friends from the early days. Hoping to get my blogpage posted on the website. I have written a book called "My Mother's Cousin" in which Randfontein features quite prominently -together with stories about the town's real characters. All the best to all concerned with the setting up of this website.
